Examples and Tools for Taking Action

The Crawford County, Kansas Youth Justice Improvement Initiative utilized a list of prioritized strategies for improvement to develop action plans for their implementation. A number of stakeholders collaborated to put these local plans into action. Strong local authorities and governance structures played an important leadership role and felt a sense of accountability for their returning community members. Additional agencies were identified to help fill in resource gaps.

This aspect of the youth justice Improvement effort’s response drew upon the existing networks and resources in Crawford County. The sense of community ownership and experience has provided the foundation in the county to prepare for and respond to needs and gaps in the youth justice system.
